This involves all the paperwork and decisions about jurors, sets up contracts and works with the Treasurer to get all paperwork resolved; send out letters of acceptance and rejection; keep track of shipping; organize set-up and take-down; arrange return shipping
Treasurer: Works with visiting artists to make sure they get paid; works with FACC, consulting forms and contracts, fills out SARS (Student Activities Request) by logging in using your username and password, Fill out SAR before you buy anything, and then after the H.O.T. Clay sale you deposit the checks
Secretary: Takes minutes and is responsible for most communication between the club and outside parties; the minutes are in a specific format, which is passed down in a template supplied by the previous secretary

National Arts in America Month

October 3rd 8am-8pm Lauren Lake has taken a leadership role to have a marathon to
raise knowledge of the arts in public spaces around campus. They are thinking about having a table possibly in the plaza of the Americas.

The Harn is having a show of Women Japanese ceramicists. They are having a museum night on nov 10th and were wanting to collaborate with HOT to possibly have demos on the museum night. Alyssa Payton would be the contact.

ArtBash may be moved to sometime in Oct.

The currents exhibition will be held on November 21st- December 9th

Sam Chung will be coming the 5th and 6th of October

Last year the HOT sale was during mid November

We have Veterans day off in November and Homecoming is in October as well

November 4th is homecoming

We are gathering the receipts for NCECA to give to Marah G. She didn’t receive the papers beforehand so the money is not yet available.
We must have a kiln room cleanup. The pedestal area needs straightening up.

In the past hot has bought tools to have for students to purchase tools from hot. Dandee P. has contacted Dolan tools to see if we can have a bulk order. We need a volunteer to organize what Galen purchased and get a folder typed up in order to advertise it to people who are teaching. Rhonda volunteers to help.
NCECA Money

Marah G. is not here therefore the money cannot be distributed at the moment. You can bring your receipts to Dandee P. P. and she will distribute the money to you. We will distribute approx. 25% of the cost of the trip. This means each student receives $75.

There is a Currents de-install sign up sheet on the H.O.T. bulletin board. This will be the week after May 31st.

Our next meeting will be on April 22nd and we will be voting on what next year’s officers duties will entail.

NCECA Table
Ray will be gone for the next 3 weeks. He will be available through cell phone contact and e-mail. He will be here for some of the weekends. We will be installing Resonance next week. You are all invited to Ray’s opening on Friday april 1st. The gallery is located across the street from the Hyatt. There will be a lot of food and a cash bar. He will be sending out the exact information to the list serv today.
If you are going to NCECA you need to watch the table. If you are getting money from the school you need to be sitting the table. In the past there has been a situation where people go to NCECA, get a day pass, do not sit the table, and get money from NCECA. There is now jurisdiction in the HOT CLAY bylaws stating you must sit the table. There are many opportunities to network at the table. Ray will not be picking up any shifts this year because he has been assigned to make sure everything is running well with the simultaneous demonstrations. He has also been organizing the volunteers. The table must be set up on Wednesday.

What do you do at the table?

Talk to the people that come up to the table. Dramatization. We will be getting a list of what the facilities entail to have at the table. Tell people your name. We get between 45-60 applications and accept 2-3people. The misconception of our postbacc program is that they are declined grads. All of our grads are funded with 100% tuition coverage and healthcare with the University.

When the conference is over you must pick up your left over business cards and postcards. Anything left on the table will be thrown away. Please do not rely on people. Friday at 5pm is the last day of the table. One grad and one postbacc or undergrad must be at the table at all times. The last person helping to close the table must take the computer back with them. The first person in the morning must bring the computer back. Nan will be in charge of the computer.

We cannot hang anything on the three foot curtain behind the booth. The T-shirts and sign must not be pinned there. Nothing can be put up above it either. The sign-up sheet must be completely filled. NCECA.net has the NCECA schedule.

Everyone needs to sign up for two shifts for the H.O.T. clay sale.
Sunday at 8pm we will meet in the studios to truck over the pots to the Reitz Union for the sale. Everyone needs to be here to be responsible for their own boxes of pots. We also need to each be responsible for bringing the pots back from the sale on Tuesday.

Please fill out the inventory sheets with initials price and number. We will be highlighting and stickering each sold item on the inventory sheets.
Discussion of pricing and what undercutting would mean.

T-Shirts
We will be selling them at the pre-conference. We need someone to volunteer to make a display for the t-shirts. We need the prices and sizes clearly stated. Autumn H. suggests that the t-shirts be placed next to the food. We should display where everyone convenes.

We need to settle on a Reitz Union sale date and since we have an incredibly cramped schedule this semester we need to vote on a new date right away. The previous dates were the 24th and 25th. The only consecutive dates that are available are March 24th and 25th which is right before the preconference. Discussion about it possibly being on different consecutive days rather than a Thursday and Friday. We also need to take into consideration the install dates for shows. The sale needs to happen before NCECA due to the fact that the funding is determined upon the sale. Discussion of possible dates.

We will be having the Reitz Union sale on February 24th and 25th. We need to have it before the conference so that we will have time to sit the sale. It is suggested that the sale could possibly be set up at Turlington Plaza. It can be reserved online in order to table at the plaza. It is the most highly traveled area of campus. There is no covering over Turlington Plaza.

Make-a-Thon

Ceramics Critical Theory Discussion
This would include reading chapters from critical theory books. Dandee P.would like to meet once a month and discuss the readings. Dandee P. would like H.O.T. clay support but it is as a peer group. This would support Dandee’s independent study class.

Possibly a hot clay member could ask around for a refrigerator. Jeffery has posted an ad on Craig’s list to procure a new fridge. Marah G. will look through the ads on Craig’s list. Jocelyn H. will also be on the lookout for a refrigerator. We are in dire need for the new fridge. H.O.T. needs to decide if we will pay for a fridge and Linda A. has recommended that H.O.T. does pay for the fridge. If anyone finds a free fridge we will move on it before we decide to buy one.

T-Shirt vote

Autumn wins the contest, we will be making her shirt. We will be having a black shirt with Autumn’s design on it. Lauren F. will bring information on the type of shirt, cost, and color choices. Between 30 and 50 shirts it will be about $7 each according to Chloe R.

Creating Meaning ( NCECA pre-conference)
Eric and Nicole would like people to sign up to assist in set-up, take-down, and assisting an artist. We may need help in preparation. There will be 3 artists. It is the 28th of March. The sign-up sheet will be on the H.O.T. bulletin board incase you need more time to figure out if you can help. All H.O.T. clay members will get to attend the preconference for free. The normal cost is about $130. The money that we receive will pay for food for the reception. Nicole makes a motion to give the money to Kathy and the remainder $200 for the whole preconference publicity budget. Discussion. Hot clay locker
There are tools available for your use in the hot clay locker such as screw drivers, hammers, a dremel, drill, and gram scale. You can receive a key to the locker from a grad student.

In Linda’s office attached to the student computer is a printer for your use. It will also do laser decal printing and the paper for this can be purchased from Ray. We have photography equipment that can be checked out for your use. There is paper that can be set up in the handbuilding room for photography. Please announce when you will be shooting so that others can work with you. We will have a sign up sheet for taking photos before the scholarship application is due.

The sign-up sheet for the Trey Hill workshop still has open spots. Please sign up for more than one shift if possible.

Lindsay R. is looking for people who would like to wood fire with her in the wood kiln. If you are interested in learning about this and firing please sign up for “labor days” and you will be able to fire with Lindsay R. in the wood firing. Nan’s clay body will fire to cone 10 if you would like to use that clay as well. If you solely want to learn about this but not be in the firing you may watch and learn. Tomorrow October 14th is a work day between 8am and 1pm we will be hauling logs to campus for this firing. You must sign a liability form if you wish to go tomorrow.

Pizza Party
Next Sunday Pizza Party is October 24th, 3:00 our presenters are Charlie Cummings & Forrest Gard
If you feel you would like to pitch in a few dollars for pizza that would be great. We will be getting cheaper pizza. Charlie C. will be demonstrating lithography transfer on ceramics. Forrest G. will be talking about his work and the performance aspect to his work. If you are interested in signing up to present please e-mail Dandee P. It is a good opportunity to have a practice run at a workshop.

Pedestal Check Out
The check out folder is kept in a compartment on the crit space door. Please return the pedestals painted. Please make yourself familiar with this book so that you can help check pedestals out to other students who are not members of hot clay. The pedestal numbers are up inside the pedestals. The numbers are our pedestals and the ones with letters are to check out to other students in other departments. We must make sure that they are painted when they are returned. We provide the bulk of the pedestals to the rest of the school. We offer a great service due to the hard work of our members.

Talk about “The Project”

We have an idea for a publicity campaign titled “Mug Shots”

We will each make 10 mugs and distribute them around campus, each person will get to keep the mug and they will take a picture of themselves using our mugs and post them to our facebook page

We will use the images that they take to advertise the sale and we will gain increased traffic to our facebook page and increased awareness for our club
We need a committee to help with this project, the committee will meet separately from the H.O.T. clay meetings

A signup sheet will be on the H.O.T. clay board to be on this committee

You can make less than 10 mugs, anything will be great

Galen O. is working on getting a grant for this project

The grant is for $15,000

If we get the grant we could use it for the mugs themselves

This year we did not get any money for NCECA
Fortunately this year NCECA is in Tampa, we feel that this publicity campaign will help us gain exposure for our sales so that we can gain money in the use for NCECA

Selling on campus creates no competition whereas selling at the fair there would be competition. Last year the Gainesville fine arts association donated a tent that we would use and waived the fees. The deadline would be in September.

Camile D. Would agree to do the Tioga sale if allowed to make a friendly amendment that we do the tioga sale and if bad weather we still have a sale at the rights union.

Drew’s Benefit & volunteer opportunities

Due to Drew losing his foot last December we will be having a benefit for him in order to raise money for his medical costs. Charlie C. and Linda A. have collaborated to have an online auction. Over 150 artists have donated work in Drew’s honor. There have been many volunteers to help unpacking and taking images of the works. After the auction Charlie C. will need help to pack and ship the purchased work. Charlie would like to give a workshop on how to pack ceramics pieces of art. Charlie assumes all responsibility after showing students how to pack. This will be a great opportunity to learn to pack.

Fri Sept. 10th at 9am there will be a preview of the works at Charlie Cummings
studio. A permission slip will need to be signed in order to go on the trip.

Dandee P. makes a motion that H.O.T. clay takes on this benefit as one of our
projects.

Galen heads the meeting in Dandee’s absence. This meeting we will need a decision for visiting artists that will be brought in for the fall and spring. There have been issues of scheduling conflicts and no artists have confirmed any dates. We need 3 alternatives for fall and spring, a potter for spring and a sculptor for fall. Potter will most likely be alumni.

Galen O. states that we are thinking about doing t shirt designs, and an official hot clay cup for the pottery sales. We have ideas to do new things in an attempt to bring in more revenue. Sarah T. suggests having a cup or mug sale with a free coffee or tea drink in their new cup. It was suggested that we have 50 cups at ten dollars a piece. Is there a rule that you cannot serve food? You cannot sell anything that is not prepared in a commercial kitchen.

Jon suggests that all the members have a shirt that promotes the club and there is a contest of the design. Everyone would wear the shirts out on outings and it will promote our club. The mission says that we promote hot clay in the community. Charlie C. suggests to discuss this at the next meeting.

PACE plates - update!

Hi Everyone!

As some of you know, I've been working with PACE as part of my internship at the Harn this semester, and today I talked to them and they gave me some cool updates on what they've been doing with all the plates we gave them :)

They said they already sold 20 plates at the kitchen-display fundraiser thing (don't remember the name) from awhile ago, and that they are doing another fundraiser later this week (Gainesville Pampering Women Event)in which they are going to sell more plates.

Anyway, they are going to give H.O.T. Clay our part of the proceeds after this upcoming fundraiser. I thought I'd let ya'll know because there was some concern about this after the event at the Junior Leage didn't pan out. Hip Hip Hooray!

Charlie stated that the exhibition has been approved and will be a two month exhibition rather than one, and Charlie and Dandee will discuss further details.

Pace
Ashley stated that the Make a thon is Saturday 06, 2010 and its being discussed that Drew Johnson will most likely be attending. Chris P. will do a demonstration on construction, and people should sign up for things and help make the plates.

Tioga
Work will be sold on February 26-28 and they may be able to provide us with a tent. Set up is from 12:00pm to 4:30 on Friday February 26th. Fair coordinators will be giving the artist a coupon for a slice and a drink while the fair is going.
Committees will meet after the meeting today to discuss organization of the fair and whom will be doing what duties.

Hey guys, Just a friendly reminder that we will be having our second PACE plate make-a-thon on Saturday February 5th from 12-4pm. We need to make at least 50 plates to meet our 100 plate quota.

If you did not participate in the first make-a-thon, please make an active effort to attend the second one. It would also be wonderful if those who attended the first one helped out at the second one to make things go quickly and smoothly.

There are also a few things we need to do to prepare the plates for glazing. Rachel signed out kiln 12 to bisque the plates with underglazes. There will be a sign-up sheet on the H.O.T Clay bulletin board to sign up for the following:

1. Apply clear glaze to plates from our recent decoration day.
2. Load, fire, and unload kiln.
3. Clean and pack finished plates.
4. Reclaim clay for next Make-A-Thon. We will need at least 250 pounds.
(This should be done soon so the clay has time to age)
5. We need someone (preferably a grad student) to be in charge of the make-a-thon.
(Ben will not be participating this time)
6. We need someone to make sure the plates are coated with slip.
7. We need someone to load the bisque, fire the kiln, and unload the kiln.
8. We need people to help the girls decorate the plates.
(The advanced class did the first make-a-thon and it would be nice if others could help at the next one)
9. Apply clear glaze to the plates.
10. Load, fire, and unload glaze kiln.
11. Clean and pack finished plates.

Thanks for all your hard work, it is really paying off. The first make-a-thon went really well and the girls had a wonderful time decorating the plates.

Make-a-thon Part2

Thank you everyone for coming to the Make-a-thon yesterday! It was a great success and we made about 40+ plates.

Tomorrow (Monday) I need some volunteers to come in and put white slip on the plates:

12:45pm: 3 people
3:30pm: 3 people

The slip is in a bucket in the crit space and you can either pour it on (with someone rolling it around on the plate and dumping it back in the bucket) or brush it on.

There will be classes going on when we need to get the plates out of the throwing room, so be courteous and ask permission :)

Currents Gallery Sitting Directions

Another email! yay!

So those of you that are going to gallery sit:

We will keep the key to the gallery with the key to Linda's office (in Ben, Pat, Chandra, and Chris' studio). When you are gallery sitting just have a grad student open that studio and grab the key. Keep it until you leave, and then make sure (SUPER IMPORTANT) that you lock the gallery when you leave--both the front and side doors.

Also, as I said previously I posted the sign up sheet. PLEASE sign up before Friday! We are open next week, so we need to have people lined up :)

After taking into consideration what we voted on at the last meeting, and talking to Amy, we are going to have the hours be from 10am-12pm and from 1pm-4pm Tuesday-Friday. We will also need someone to gallery sit while the show is open this Friday for the University Gallery reception.

She then discussed what the proper format for submitting entries to future shows.

Amy Vigilante provided information regarding the policy and the funds necessary to insure the work in the show. The cost to insure could be minimized by hiring someone to watch the show, or shorten the hours of the show.

Discussion of practicality ensued.
Having students sit at the show and provide extra credit was mentioned as well as cutting Monday altogether and reduced hours during the week.

Discussed membership fees (15 student, 48 Non)
Brings in artists to discuss their work and various other resources.

GFAA has juried exhibitions and entries are due by November 14, 2009

Sarah Marraffino discussed the pricing process for the sale.
Stickers were distributed and the sheets need to be filled out and handed back to Sarah by Sunday prior to the sale.
All should be there to load on Sunday evening at 4:00pm into vehicles and drive to the Reitz Union where it is unloaded and put in storage till Monday morning where again everyone should be there to put the work out on Monday at 8:00am.
Take down on Monday and Tuesday is at 4:00pm.
Chloe R. and Rachel S. said that they have trucks available.
Posters and flyers didn’t get printed and Charlie C. suggests that we cancel the printing because of the time shortage.
Takedown

Hannah P. mentions that she would like to have a “How to apply to shows” for what came to Currents Show that is currently be reviewed.
This is being slated for some time after Anne Drew Potter’s workshop.

Meagan C. has volunteered to allow the club to use her Credit Card machine during the sale.
After funds have been distributed to her account she could write HOT Clay a check and then the funds would be disbursed to members.
A tutorial of how the machine works could be shown on Sunday evening.

PACE Presentation:

Non-residential program and schooling for at risk girls.

PACE is looking to generate programming with H.O.T. Clay during the school week where their students can interact with club members and take part in a creative process. The end result being a fund raiser for a capital campaign where objects made by club members and students of pace would be sold.

All H.O.T. Clay members will donate 5 unfired bowls/plates to be decorated by the PACE students who will come to the studio to decorate. All clay will be provided to the members.

Brittany and Ashley will act as co-liaisons to the PACE staff in determining all logistical and scheduling needs.

Steve Howell Brush Making Notes

1. Steve Howell uses black bamboo handles for his brushes.
a. first he decides how long he wants the bamboo handle to be, and tapes the bamboo with masking tape where he wants to cut it. This will make sure the bamboo does not split.
b. then he cuts the bamboo with a coping saw that has a fine tooth.
c. finally, he bevels the ends of the newly cut bamboo handle so that it looks more considered and isn't sharp.

2. In order to waterproof the bamboo handle and bring out its color, Steve rubs a "Wipe on Wipe off" water-based urethane on it.

3. Steve gets the animal hair for the brush from the Tackle Box, a fishing shop by Lake Newnan. In the section for fly fishing there are a bunch of deer tails and other materials that can be used for brushes.
a. Steve said that horsetail is too coarse a material for brushes, unless you want to use it for a drab and pull technique (for a mop-like effect) but is not good for fine line work.
b. Dog hair works well, especially the really fine hair under a dogs legs
c. human hair does not work at all
d. some of the Chinese calligraphy brushes use wolf hair with rabbit hair as a second layer around it.

4. After the handle is cut, use scissors or a pocket knife to carve out the membrane in side the hollow end of the bamboo you want to stick the brush hair into. This allows for better adherence.

5. Separate out the section of hair you want to use for the brush. It should be enough to fit into the bamboo handle, without being too much or too little. Without cutting the section of hair off, tie it at the bottom with unwaxed dental floss. Double knot it.

6. Cut the tied section of hair off about .5 inch below the knot.

7. With carpenter's glue (NOT elmer's glue)put a dab of glue down into the center of the bundle of hair, in the end that will fit into the bamboo.

8. Wrap the floss down and around towards the end of the bundle (where the glue is) and then tie it off. Smear the glue around the wrapped floss. Cut off the remaining floss.

9. Shape the glued end of the hair into a point, so it will fit better into the bamboo handle.

10. Put a dab of glue down into the tip of the bamboo handle, where the brush hair will go.

11. Fit the tied end of the hair into the bamboo handle; if it is a perfect fit, you'll have to screw it in and then push it down. If it's too loose, you'll have to find another piece of bamboo that will fit it better.

*if there are errant hairs, you can try burning them away, but don't cut any part of the end of the hairs, because it will blunt them and change how they make marks.

*instead of just grabbing a section of hair that you want and leaving them uneven, you can try lining the individual hairs up so that they make a flat edge (as opposed to cutting them flat, which would be bad).

*Steve's favorite brushes were made of roosevelt elk and white deer tail

*Steve's book recommendation was "Letters to a Young Poet"

Art Bash is on the 13th and the sale will be set up outside the studio as well.
Sale will be 6pm to 9pm during Art Bash and set up will start at 5pm.

Membership requirements for the club are defined by participation in all activities and events as per the 2005 bi-laws. A newer constitution is available but not on hand at the moment.
Discussion will be tabled to the next meeting

Pot luck is tomorrow night (Saturday) from 6ish to 9ish in the Handbuilding room for Jumpstart speaker Terry Lanier.
Members should attend and bring a dish.

New critique and slide shooting space is now primed and almost ready to use. Rachel S. and Kristen S. are volunteering to come in a help and others are welcome to come in and help.

Ben C. purchased supplies for the pedestals and the new reclaim tables and would like to be reimbursed.
New procedures for this issue were discussed.

PACE presentation is rescheduled for 3:30pm on November 21st.

Soooo, we have it scheduled from 12pm to approx. 4pm in the Throwing Room this Saturday (tomorrow). This time it is bring your own clay, but in the future we can talk about other alternatives.

This is the first of two make-a-thons (the other in Oct.). These are important events because it is a time to focus on making work specifically for the sale, and also a time for everyone to get together, get to know one another, etc.

-Gator nights at the Reitz union offers social interaction, and we can help run the program and if 8 people do a “shift” you can get a food scholarship of 50.00 if 8 do a second shift we can get 100.00 and this would be for visiting artist food and exhibition

Funds:
Kristen distributed the checks for reimbursement of NCECA funds and all in attendance signed off that they received the checks. Chandra Debuse collected for Elliot Marquet, and Brian Weaver also collected on behalf of Alan Schulte.
Kristen stated that we still have 1011.37 to spend on programs and 1194.76 to spend on supplies.

Visiting Artist:
Misty Gamble has been selected to be a visiting artist at the end of May. Chandra Debuse motions that we bring her in on May 29th and 30th, 2009. Hannah Pate seconds. The group votes unanimously that we bring her in. Hannah Pate motions that we give all of the money allocated for programs to Misty Gamble and Pat Coughlin seconds this motion. The group votes unanimously that we distribute all the funds to Misty Gamble for the 2 day workshop. A press release for Misty Gamble will be done by Chandra Debuse. T.J. Erdahl motions that we have a lecture and demonstration each day of her workshop. Steph Stuefer seconds the motion. The group votes almost unanimously that this is to be the format. One vote is abstained.

Supplies:
Kristen stated that a second digital projector and a lockable cart be purchased with the supply funds. The projector would be 750.00-800.00, and the cart would be nearly 200.00 dollars. We would then spend the remaining 200.00 at Lowes/Home Depot purchasing supplies such as 5 gallons of paint, Spackle, lights, etc. Charlie Cummings will give an itemized list to Hannah Pate for purchasing said items. Brian Weaver motions that we purchase the aforementioned items, and Chris Pickett seconds. The group votes unanimously that this occurs. A SAR report has already been put through for the purchasing of a decal printer as well.

Visiting Artist Films:
T.J. Erdahl motions that we convert all the visiting artist tapes to digital files (DVD) to make them relevant in modern society. The group discusses various possibilities, but no solution is found. This will be tabled until the next meeting.

T-Shirts:
Ben Carter discusses the idea of giving away free shirts to all the members of the club to help promote the program and utilize us humans as walking advertising. Pat Coughlin seconds the motion, and the group votes unanimously that this occurs.

Currents Show:
John Byrd has been voted as the Currents show juror for the upcoming year. A discussion was tabled for next meeting involving whether we should allocate funds for his time, do a professional trade, ask for a slide lecture in conjunction, have his work also during the exhibition.

Visiting Artist: Misty Gamble

The University of Florida proudly presents upcoming visiting artist, Misty Gamble. Misty will present a demonstration on May 29th and 30th will a lecture on the 29th. All are welcome to attend and attendance is free.
From Misty's website:

Biography
      Misty Gamble’s work is inspired by the human figure and its infinite capacity
for communication. This makes sense given that, as a child, Misty was immersed
in her father’s world of puppetry and the performing arts. Traveling to many parts
of the world as a young girl and later as an adult has also made an indelible
impact on her life and work. In 1998, Misty was invited to be the first American
to perform in Iran (since 1979) at the 7th International Puppet Festival in Tehran.
Gamble’s current work, life-size ceramic figurative sculptures, focuses attention
on issues surrounding femininity and challenges conventional standards of morality,
normalcy and propriety. Misty is a recipient of a number of honors including awards
from the Martin Wong Foundation, National Conference for the Education of
Ceramic Arts and the Ellice T. Johnston Foundation. Recently, she received an
artist grant from the Ruth Chenven Foundation and was selected as a 2008
Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist. Misty just completed a one-year Artist-in-Residency
at Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts, where she earned the Howard Kottler
Fellowship. She continues to exhibit nationally and will teach at Kansas City Art
Institute in the Fall.

The Club has agreed it will be a national show with two jurors.
Entry fee is $20.00 & free to current H.O.T. Clay members.

Any solution that involves using the Focus Gallery will have to be finalized with Amy Vigilante, the University of Florida’s Gallery director.

Pedestals
A pedestal upkeep committee will meet over the summer to repair and finalize storage for club pedestals. Anyone remaining here in the summer please contact Ben Carter to sign up for this committee.

Regardless of who uses the pedestals, all pedestals must be returned to a white base.
Seniors, Post-baccs and Certificate students must repaint the pedestals that have been used for “ceramic Six Pack” exhibition white before they return them to the kiln room.

Focus Gallery, Dean’s Office Display Cases: summer 2009
Smaller works that can fit in the vitrines in the main hallway outside of the dean’s office are in need of work to be displayed.

Focus Gallery will be empty for a large part of the summer, H.O.T. Clay would like to propose a show exhibiting member work for this time. Chandra DeBuse has agreed to contact Amy Vigilante about setting this exhibition up.

H.O.T. Clay Sale Postponed
The spring 2009 sale has been postponed to the summer and will take place on one of the preview dates at the Reitz Union.
Ashley, Hannah, Sarah M will research the best possible dates for the preview sale.

Fall 2009 sale is tentatively scheduled for Nov 11, 12, 13

Kathryn Finnerty is scheduled to come in the spring

Brian is the contact person for Potter and Chris is the contact person for Finnerty.
Chris & Brian will contact the Harn to find out when the Museum night dates are, what the CFA and SA+AH schedules are and select possible dates that the artists will come for the club to vote on.
When a date is selected they will need to book the room in Reid hall right away.

Clay Reclaim
Hannah will send out an e-mail regarding the remaining reclaim and a schedule of when it will be reclaimed. After the last date the Pugger will need to be dismantled, cleaned out and reassembled.

End of the Year Brunch
The end of the year get-together will be at Anna Calluori Holcombe’s home. Festivities will begin at 11am and end at 2pm. Directions to Anna’s are located on the door outside of Linda’s door.

We have decided to cancel the spring sale, originally scheduled for the 15th and 16th of this month.

The final H.O.T. Clay meeting of the semester will be Friday, April 17th at 3pm in the wheel throwing room. We want to celebrate all of our accomplishments this semester by having a potluck during the meeting. There is a sign up on the HOT Clay bulletin board. Please bring items to snack on.

Spring Sale Info and Sign Up

The Spring Sale sign up sheet is posted on the H.O.T. Clay bulletin board. Everyone needs to sign up for 2 shifts and 1 set up and 1 take down shift. If you cannot meet these requirements, you need to find a friend to fill in for you.

The sale dates are Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16th. We are all meeting in the kiln room on Tuesday, April 14th at 5:30pm to take everything over to the Union. You must have your sale items boxed up and inventoried by 5pm on Tuesday.

This sale is coming up quickly! It is the week right after we get back from NCECA. The proceeds from this sale go to artists participating in the sale, H.O.T. Clay equipment, bringing visiting artists to UF, H.O.T. Clay shows and other ceramic shows, and NCECA funding. If you are benefitting from this sale or previous sales, you must help out. NCECA funding depends on you meeting the requirements for working shifts.

There is a full barrel of stoneware reclaim waiting to be recycled. Using the pugger will require it to be cleaned out. Reclaiming in a solder or bluebird mixer is recommended.

NCECA
The sign up sheet for the booth needs to get filled out. There are still several open spaces. It is preferred that there be three people sitting at a time, two at the least. Everyone should be signing up for two shifts. The sign up is on the hot clay board.

Receipts: There is a folder for NCECA travel receipts on the hot clay board. It is extremely important that we get all receipts in that folder no later than the Tuesday after NCECA. If all needed receipts are turned in every HOT Clay Member attending NCECA will be receiving approximately $198.

Alumni Dinner
Currently the club has donated a matching fund from SA+AH of $250 to be used for the Alumni dinner. Due to the size of the group in attendance and booking costs the club will be supplementing an extra 100 dollars. Linda will be mailing location and time of dinner shortly.

If there is an artist whose work is awesome and you would like to see how they make it please come to the meeting with images of their work to present to the club.

Bring anywhere from 5-10 images of their work and an artist statement and resume if they are available. The easiest way to show the club your proposal is in PowerPoint form. If the artist has a website please forward the link to the club e-mail list so that we have time to consider. When considering an artist to propose think about the type of work they make and if it will translate to a short 2 day format.

H.O.T. Clay Pedestals will now be signed out if used. All pedestals will be inventoried, anyone wanting to use the pedestals must sign out which pedestals they will use and fill out a liability waiver.

Currents Deinstall

We will be deinstalling the Currents show in the Focus Gallery this Saturday (2/7) from 10am - 12pm. Chris and Robin have signed up to help, but we could use more hands. Please come help us inventory and move the pedestals back downstairs if you are available. We also need to pack the work and prepare it for shipping or pick up. This can be accomplished quickly and smoothly if more HOT Clay members are able to help.

Please let me know if you are planning on coming Saturday so I can estimate the number of DOUGHNUTS to buy (HINT/HINT).

If you had work in the show, I will be leaving it in your studio space on Saturday morning.

Empty Bowls
Naomi, acting on behalf of IFAH (international Fine Arts & Healing) presented information regarding the Empty Bowls event the group is organizing. Empty Bowls is a fund raising event where participants donate money and receive a meal of bread and soup in a hand crafted bowl that they then get to keep.
The Empty Bowls event will be held either the 2nd or 4th of April.
Proceeds will be donated to the Jubilee House of Gainesville
High-water Clay has donated 250 LBs of Stoneware for the event
February 14 @ 12:00pm H.O.T. Clay has agreed to host a Make-a-thon event and pot-luck on Valentine’s Day for members of H.O.T. Clay, IFAH and anyone else who wishes to donate bowls.
Finished Bowls need to be given to an IFAH representative on March 16th

Jason Walker has confirmed his workshop dates of March 19 and 20th.

The club will begin hosting a series of critique dates that will include Grads, Undergrads and Post-baccs. Anyone can sign up for a critique; each new critique date will have a new facilitator to lead discussion with the collective group of ceramic students.

The committee who organizes the student juried show is no longer receiving funding for its events from student govt. and is asking clubs to donate money for catering services.

NY trip

Anna just came back from the New York trip information meeting. She wanted me to let everyone know that H.O.T. clay (and other clubs) are eligible for 50% reimbursement for this trip (Just like NCECA.) I’m not sure when the deadline is, but it is close. I’ll post the cost estimates sheet on our studio door.
